Vasten: Fasting Timer — Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Vasten: Fasting Timer app for iPhone (the “Application”), created by Dennis van Dalen (the “Service Provider”). The Application is provided as-is.
The short version
Vasten: Fasting Timer is designed to work without an account or a developer-operated remote service. The Service Provider does not collect, receive, sell, or share your fasting history or other personal information through the Application.
The Application contains no advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking SDKs.
Data stored on your device
The Application stores the information needed to provide its features locally on your device. This may include:
- the start and end times of your fasts;
- fasting targets and completed fasting history;
- corrections or notes you make to a fasting record; and
- Application preferences.
This information is not transmitted to the Service Provider. Widgets, Live Activities, notifications, statistics, and approximate metabolic-stage information are calculated from your stored data.
Exporting and importing data
The Application may let you export your fasting history as JSON or CSV and import it again. Exporting is initiated by you. You choose where the exported file is saved or sent using features provided by iOS.
Once you export or share a file outside the Application, its handling depends on the location, application, or person you selected. The Service Provider cannot access or control those copies.
Private iCloud sync, backups, and Apple services
When iCloud is available, the Application uses Apple’s CloudKit service to synchronize fasting records through your private iCloud database. This lets your data remain available across your own devices. The private database is associated with your Apple Account and is not accessible to the Service Provider.
Depending on your device and backup settings, Apple may also include locally stored Application data in an iPhone or iCloud backup. The Service Provider does not operate or have access to the private CloudKit database or those backups.
The Application does not include a custom cloud backend. Apple may independently process information related to downloading the Application, App Store purchases, crash reports, or device diagnostics under Apple’s own privacy terms and your device settings.
Data retention and deletion
Your fasting data remains in the Application until you delete individual records or use its delete-all option. When private iCloud sync is enabled, these deletions are synchronized through CloudKit. Removing the Application deletes its local data from that device, but synchronized data or backups may remain in your iCloud account. Use delete all before uninstalling if you want the Application to request deletion of its synchronized records. Files you previously exported must be deleted separately from wherever you saved or shared them.
Because the Service Provider does not receive your Application data, there is no server-side account or fasting history for the Service Provider to retrieve or delete.
Children’s privacy
The Application is not directed at children under 13, and the Service Provider does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Application.
Health information
The Application is a timer and informational utility, not a medical device. Any metabolic stages or fasting milestones shown by the Application are broad estimates for educational purposes. They are not personal measurements, diagnoses, or medical advice.
Security
Keeping information on your device limits how it is exposed to the Service Provider, but no device or storage method is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your device and any files you export.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the Application’s features or data practices change. The latest version will remain available on this page, with its effective date updated when appropriate.
